BMI categories explained

The World Health Organization defines four BMI ranges for adults.

Below 18.5

Underweight

May indicate malnutrition or other health issues.

18.5 – 24.9

Normal weight

Associated with the lowest health risk for most people.

25.0 – 29.9

Overweight

Increased risk for some chronic conditions.

30.0 and above

Obese

Significantly increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
